With the new foaling season having arrived, we are looking for breeders who have a hairless foal born into their herd.
Regardless of whether that foal dies right away or is still alive, please contact us immediately. In case of the demise of the foal, please have your stable vet either take as diverse tissue, urine and blood samples as possible and store them as needed for research purposes or have the dead foal deep frozen in entirety immediately and also stored.
In preparation of the identification of and a development of a test for this genetic illness tissue and blood samples of the parents and the hairless foal are needed. For the Belgian Draft and for the Saddlebred this has already been successfully done, there is no reason why this shouldn't be feasible for the Akhal Teke as well. A test will help breeders discover the carriers among their herds, to pair them only with non-carriers, thus avoiding the mishap of breeding a hairless foal or possibly also failed gestations due this problem.
